Our 18K Gold PVD coated premium stainless steel should last for years without tarnishing or discoloring under standard wear conditions so if you experience any discoloration issues, please contact us.

PVD stands for “physical vapor deposition” and is a type of vacuum coating process used to create an extremely strong and durable coating on metal. It is an eco-friendly process and more sustainable than traditional gold plating by reducing the release of harmful chemicals and pollutants into the air.
Our jewelry is made with a premium, surgical grade stainless steel base and then PVD coated with a thick (8-10 microns) layer of 18K gold that is 16-20 times thicker than standard gold plating used in most jewelry. This thick, durable PVD coating enables our jewelry to be waterproof, sweatproof, and anti-tarnish – keeping it’s beautiful color for years.
-
Our 18K gold PVD (physical vapor deposition) coating is waterproof, sweatproof, and more resistant to tarnishing and scratches than gold-filled, plated, or vermeil jewelry but comes at a fraction of the cost of solid gold. It is also substantially less expensive than gold-filled and vermeil jewelry and even a lower cost than low quality gold-plated jewelry used by many designers and popular brands. We used the highest standard of PVD coating at 8-10 microns thick which is 16-20x thicker than typical gold plating used in jewelry.
Visit the “Our Materials” section of our About page to see a head-to-head review of how our gold stacks up against the competition.

All of our 18K Gold PVD coated and premium stainless steel items are waterproof, sweatproof, anti-tarnish, and hypoallergenic. Their color should last with daily wear under normal conditions for multiple years.
For items made entirely of 18K Gold PVD coated stainless steel or solid stainless steel:
You can:
Shower/bathe
Swim in the ocean or salt water pools
Wear it during exercise/when sweating
You should remove your jewelry if you:
Swim in chlorine pools (standard swimming pools)
Go in a hot tub
Come in contact with chemicals, cleaning products, dyes, or acidic items
For our beaded jewelry:
The 18K Gold coated beads themselves will withstand the conditions noted above for our other jewelry without discoloring, however the materials they are paired with require more care than our metal chains.
Our stretch bracelets are made with commercial strength stretch cord and should withstand normal wear, but are not as durable as our clasped bracelets. They may snap if stretched too far or if they snag on something so handle with additional care. Over time the strength of the cord can weaken from wear and repeated tension. For bracelets with a more snug fit we recommend gently rolling them on to prevent excessive stretching.
For beaded bracelets or necklaces, we utilize a variety of materials such as natural and color enhanced stones, glass, and mother of pearl in addition to our 18K Gold coated stainless steel. We intentionally aim to source high quality and lasting beads but based on the materials, they are not as durable as our stainless steel based items and should be handled with more care. It is recommended you remove beaded bracelets before showering, swimming, or exercising.

No! That’s part of what makes our jewelry so great. The 316L stainless steel base for our gold and silver toned products is surgical grade and is considered safe for most skin types. While everyone’s skin is different and some individuals may rare allergies, our stainless steel is classified as hypoallergenic and should not cause a skin reaction or discoloration for the average person.
Brass (the most common base for gold plated jewelry), copper, and nickel are the metals that most commonly cause skin irritations and discoloration due to their tendency to oxidize and tarnish. None of these metals are used in our products.
